The Pets HQ was created because we believe the pet world is much bigger than dogs and cats. From Bloop to Chirp, Meow, Woof, and Hiss, every kind of pet has a place here.
We’re building a one-stop destination for the animals that share our homes and our lives—from fish and birds to reptiles and small pets including hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, gerbils, rats, and mice. We’re starting with the essentials and adding products with the goal of making it easier to find what your pets need. And if you can’t find it, let us know—we’ll do our best to source it.

Why? You ask…
Walter
Walter was rescued from the Palm Springs shelter in 2018. A handsome brindle Staffy-Boxer mix, Walter has four white socks, a white-tipped tail, and a whole lot of personality. We call him “Sugar-Paw”—a big, lovable guy who started out as the quiet type in his younger years.
Over the years, Walter has definitely found his voice. These days, he’s quite the talker and always seems to have something to say. Back in Palm Springs, we spent a couple of years chasing rabbits around the desert before making the move to Fort Lauderdale, where the rabbits have been replaced by iguanas.
Walter has slowed down a bit. These days, he’s much more interested in a good nap than chasing anything—and honestly, he’s probably better at napping anyway. Walter is one of the reasons The Pets HQ exists: because life with a rescue pet is full of stories, laughs, and more love than you ever expected.
Bella
Walter and I met Bella on the street during one of our nightly walks. A Blue Nose Staffy, she was traveling solo and heading straight toward danger. Somehow escaped from somewhere, she was making her way in our direction, looking like a little troublemaker. Low to the ground and curious, she slowly made her way toward Walter. After a bark from both dogs—boom!—Bella was flat on her back. She surrendered. I put a leash on her and took her home.
Once we got the dirt off, we discovered a hungry, beat-up little dog who had clearly been through a lot. There was evidence that Bella had been used as a bait dog, and she didn’t trust easily. Walter was the exception. Every other dog got the boom bark, and it definitely wasn’t cute. It took time, patience, and a whole lot of love, but Bella slowly learned that she was finally safe—and that she had found her home.
We had Bella for nearly three years before, in 2022, we lost her to acute lymphoma. She began to slow down and became unusually lethargic. Then we noticed bruising beneath her belly, and everything changed so quickly. Within just a week, we had to say goodbye. It was far too soon for a dog who had already been through so much, but Bella knew love, safety, and home during the time we had her. We will always be grateful that she found her way to us—and that Walter was there to welcome her home.
Lucy
Lucy came to us from the Broward Shelter, a rescue on her third try at finding a home. Just a pup at about a year and a half old, she arrived with one ear up, one ear down, and one of the sweetest personalities you could ever meet. Lucy is a charming, social Blue Nose Staffy who loves people, loves to run, and is incredibly fast and athletic. She’s our little mama sweet thing and has a way of winning everyone over.
There is, however, one thing that can turn our sweet Lucy into a completely different dog: anything with two wheels! Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, Vespas—you name it, she’s ready to bark her head off and give chase. And unlike Walter, Lucy actually catches things. Iguanas have become her specialty, and every now and then she proudly leaves one by the back door as a little gift. She may be a handful at times, but Lucy is pure charm, endless energy, and a whole lot of love—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Rescue, Adopt, and Make a Difference
Pets are always an adventure. Before you know it, they’ve claimed a place in your home—and an even bigger place in your heart. As advocates for rescue dogs, and especially Pit Bulls and Staffordshire Terriers, we encourage you to rescue, adopt, or foster when you can. These animals have so much love to give and deserve the chance to find a home where they can thrive.
But rescue is a commitment, and it’s important to understand what that means. Shelters across the country continue to face staggering numbers of animals in need, made worse by the wave of dogs surrendered after the pandemic. Know your needs, your limits, and your capabilities before bringing an animal home. The goal isn’t simply to get a dog out of a shelter—it’s to give them a home where they can stay, be loved, and belong.
Rescue when you can. Adopt when you’re ready. Foster when you can help. And above all, make a commitment that lasts.
